Mychal DeSoto, a Junior at North Medford High School, is the 2009 Southwest Conference District Shot Put Champion.

He entered meet as the #3 seed with a personal best throw of 49' 2.5". The #2 seed Steve Adams-South Medford High had a personal best of 49' 7". The #1 seed Justin Fabrick of South Eugene had a personal best of 50' 4.5".

In the 2nd flight qualifying round, Mychal DeSoto threw a 46' 5", Steve Adams threw a 47' 1", and Justin Fabrick threw a 47' 6". He sat in 4th place but qualified for the finals. In the finals, Mychal DeSoto threw a 48' 3" and the other two did not improve their earlier throws.

Mychal DeSoto won the 2009 OSAA Southwest Conference District Track Meet Shot Put Gold Medal.

He qualified to represent the SWC at the OSAA State Championship meet and competed for the State Shot Put Championship at Historic Hayward Field at The University of Oregon on Friday, May 22, 2009.

He made his second best throw of the year at 48' 3.75" and qualified for the finals.  He finished, taking 9th Place in Oregon 6A.  The winner, Ryan Crouser, broke a OSAA State meet record with a finals toss of 66' 01".
